Follow NCR Edinburgh's progress through the first day of CodeFest. Check back regularly for live updates!
16:30 Day One is winding down with Codefesters beginning to drift home. We will be back tomorrow to do it all over again!
15.15 "Shiny", "nifty", "passable with care", "yeah...". These were just some of the words that the NCR Radio team used to describe their project. The team hope to remove the burden of the 10 metre walk to change songs on the laptop in our communal gathering area. A web page with a search function has already been created, now they just need to link it to something...
15.00 "It strikes me that there is a fundamental problem with the whole approach...." - Grant. Words overhead from the Media Team base, coming in the direction of the Echobot Team.
14.30 The Magic Mirror team are painting while waiting for their mirror to be delivered. Presumably this is a key component of the Magic Mirror.
14.00 Our Moustached, Media Team Maverick Richard, who was MIA this morning has made it in!
12.45 "It will change lives. Nothing will ever be the same again.... in the world!" Those were the words of the initially guarded "The Guard" team. They are using sensors, linked to a web page, to make locking up the office easier. Trust us, it is a hard task, with three floors and two buildings. We're even planning to expand further into our base at Kittle Yards. Ivan has said: "It will help families." Who doesn't want that?
12.00 Some incredibly funky tunes coming from the Amazon Echo that the Echobot team are using. Codefesters are struggling to resist the urge to "get down" as they pass their breakfast bar base. Their ultimate goal is to sync Alexa with the "Free Loo Service", a previous Codefest project that uses lights to show whether a bathroom is occupied. First though, they are experimenting with inspirational quotes, haikus and jokes.
11.30 The Desktop Data Center team have grand plans of making some pretty lights flash. How festive!
10.47 Given the amount of lumberjack shirts worn around the office on a daily basis, we thought we would actually try and chop some wood as part of the Living Wall project. David, ably supervised by Tabs, demonstrated some competent sawing that wouldn't look out of place on a certain well-known DIY show.
10.11 Josh and Bex arrive with their first set of videos. Turns out, no one yet knows what they are doing, and are rather reluctant to be interviewed. Media Team mission: To get as much blooper material as possible.
9.46 Work has started on CodeFest, with most of the teams assembled. The Media Team is in disarray, trying to figure out the best way of getting video... News will be broadcast shortly.
9.42 And we’re off! Two days of innovation, teamwork and fun at NCR Edinburgh are underway. This page will keep you updated on all the goings on at Winter Codefest 2016. Which project will join our last winner, The Enforcer, in the prestigious list of winners? We will also be providing updates via our Twitter account @NCREDINBURGH. If you haven’t already, follow, retweet and share.
8.46 A few people are in early, waiting for the rest of their team to arrive. John is doing some last minute swotting of the new technologies he will be using on Phil's Mystery Project.
