Follow NCR Edinburgh's progress through the second day of CodeFest. Check back regularly for live updates!
16.27 The Librarians are on second. Two teams merged into one for this project which is just beautiful and inspiring. They are able to successfully log in to their app, which allows you to check books in and out of the NCR Library. The app also includes push notifications; so no more excuses for forgetting! The team run out of time. How ironic. This from a team whose aim it is to encourage punctuality.
16:21 Echobot team is up first. They try and demonstrate by asking Alexa to inspire them: "burn the heretic" is her response. Apparently it is also not "taps aff" weather.
16:20 Teams will have five minutes to present their project, impress their colleagues, and impress the mystery judges.
16:15 Codefest leader James gets us going with our intro video and some friendly words. He invites a member of the winning Enforcer team from last time to unveil the grand prize... The COFEFEST CARDIGAN!
16:00 The Melding is about to begin. Two-bit Christmas Carols play in the background to a pensive crowd, full of anticipation.
15:59 60 seconds...
15:50 Grant in the Echobot team asks Alexa to play "Whipped Cream" by Herb Albert; a regular during technical faults in our weekly Dips and Discussion meetings. Alexa proceeds to play 60's rockers, Cream. Grant gets increasingly frustrated.
15:45 T-Minus 15 minutes. It is striking that this Codefest has involved the innovative use of cardboard. From the Echobot's house to the makeshift table that is being used to write this post.
15:15 Teams gather in the Borozdome to set up their projects for demos. There is still drilling going on and lots of people have their heads down while "Imagine" by John Lennon plays softly in the background.
15:00 Codefest organiser/Editor in Chief/Prince/Supreme Leader James sounds the klaxon that teams have 60 minutes left.
14:55 The Guard team seem supremely confident with not long to go. Potential winners or fatal overconfidence?
14:50 Ahead of the NCR Radio Team's first staging, Fraser is heard to remark: "Beyond here lies death and despair."
14:45 With an hour and 15 minutes to go, the Living Wall are pulling out all the stops, not only do they have a hammer, but they have two drills!
14:40 "What, TWO gifs? Why NCR Edinburgh, you are way too nice to us." - The Public, 2016.
14:35 Codefest takes a macabre, dystopian turn as Josh interviews Alexa: "Trivial human endeavours." Thanks Alexa, you make this all seem worthwhile.
14:30 Piotr and Henry say their quest to Make Pitest Better has probably made it better in some ways but possibly slightly worse in others. I guess they did exactly what they set out to do, sort of...
14:25 The face of one of our Media Team writers ends up being the guinea pig for the FMIS project. It's a little worrying to know that we could make or break them.
14:15 CONFIRMED: A very tense team of Librarians confirmed that a burrito glove is indeed a glove used in the preparation of burritos. We've all learned something today...
13:45 Just been informed that our master interviewer Josh asked if he should wear the same T-Shirt today that he had on yesterday for "continuity". Yes, we are THAT dedicated!
13:30 "All those witty posts and amazing pictures are one thing NCR Edinburgh, but why haven't you uploaded any gifs?" This is the question we are constantly asked by our legions of fans. Well, we have a surprise for you. Consider it your Christmas Present from us.
12:00 The office gathers for the customary Codefest group picture in the Borozdome.
11:50 In what can only be described as a throwback to a Val Doonican Christmas Special, Grant from the Echobot Team sat down with our very own Josh for a chat. He talked about his loyalty to his team and reminisced about the ghosts of projects past.
11:45 Henry in the Make Pitest Better team says they have made a big effort. Someone is making a picture of Henry for some reason.
11:30 Let there be light! Desktop Data Centre not only managed to make their lights work, but the lights also change pattern.
11:20 "That's for me to know and you to find out. If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise." Alan in the FMIS team delivers a cagey response when asked why he needs an ill-tempered cod.
11:00 UPDATE FROM YESTERDAY: The Magic Mirror mirror has arrived!!!!
10:35 Alan from the Mystery Project has asked the Hardware Lab for a shelf, in his house....
10:30 Alison, from the Hardware Lab, has shared some of the requests they received. The FMIS team asked for a webcam, some ill-tempered cod with a time machine, and a jetpack. Make Pitest Better wanted Arduinos, lasers and sharks. The Librarians asked for a library to be built, but also requested a barcode scanner and a burrito stand with glove. We are waiting for confirmation as to whether the glove is a special glove for making burritos, or merely a novelty oven glove shaped like a burrito.
10:00 Day two is well and truly underway and the Media Team is another person down. Are we the Cursed Team of Codefest? Has one of the teams we keep pestering put a hex on us? We'll keep you posted on this and all the other goings on today. Stay tuned.
