As part of its billion dollar transition to a Software driven company, NCR has identified Edinburgh as the location for a Centre of Software Expertise. Building upon an existing, highly skilled and successful team we are looking for people to join us in a development environment that emphasizes creativity, collaboration and product ownership.
This role is as part of a team which provides guidance, standards and support to engineers within the product development teams. You will help develop, maintain and improve our software build & deployment pipelines.
As a Build & Deploy specialist, you will help define our next generation process and infrastructure as we move towards Continuous Delivery. You will support engineering teams to adopt new technology and work closely with customer facing engineers to ensure successful customer implementations.
In particular, responsibilities will include:
We work in an Agile environment and practice ScrumBan due to the mix of planned and reactive work. In practice we have a continuous flow of requests and feedback as our direct customers (mainly development teams) sit all around us.
Most of our software is written in Java or JavaScript but we also support iOS, Android and .net build environments.
You will be given access to the tools that you need to do the job and you can choose a Windows, Mac or Linux workstation as you prefer.
You will invested in learning about and implementing Continuous Integration tools to consume source code at one end and efficiently deliver high quality, analysed and tested software at the other end (or enabling quick feedback to developers when software does not meet the required standards).
You will have a strong programming & technical background and use this expertise to drive automation and self-service tools throughout the development, build & deployment lifecycle. Your programming skills will probably have been honed as a Developer with experience in system automation or an Ops person with experience coding to automate processes.
While knowledgeable of good engineering practice today, you continuously seek to improve processes and infrastructure. You are connected to the wider DevOps community and able to identify which emerging tools and patterns should be adopted.
You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will be at ease working across teams both locally and globally.
