Darren joined NCR Edinburgh as a software engineer in August 2015 having graduated a month earlier with his BSc in Computer Science at Strathclyde University. He was drawn to NCR Edinburgh by the relaxed and friendly work environment as well as the opportunity to learn through working with experienced colleagues and utilizing training days to expand his knowledge in other areas.
His first experience with programming began in Secondary school were he began learning in visual basic 6. However, with Java being the language of choice at Strathclyde University this is where most of his experience lies.
Having not been to Edinburgh for several years before joining NCR Darren had somewhat forgotten how beautiful a city it actually is and it helps that the weather is usually better than that of his home city of East Kilbride (although still not great by most standards).
Outside of work Darren enjoys many sports including football, golf and badminton. Video games are also an interest of his with counter strike and rocket league among his current favorites. Darren has also been playing piano for almost 10 years and is currently focused on learning ragtime pieces by Scott Joplin.
