Karl went to school in the age of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, which the broken leg fairy brought as the unexpected result of a Scout ski trip to the Lecht. Perhaps though, more sympathy (i.e. a Commodore 64) was due for the subsequent morphine-free & suspension-less Landrover trip down from the Lecht to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
After leaving the Scouts, healing bones & finishing school he left rural Aberdeenshire for University in Edinburgh studying Physics and Computing under Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Babbage.
Post University and several years of “discovering himself” via part time jobs and Elizabethan Indie Bands he remembered his boyhood expertise in BASIC1, and went back to school to study information systems at Robert Gordon’s when it was just newly a University.
Since then he’s paddled his good ship Career2 through Y2K, Web 1.0, 2.0, working with many now extinct systems & long dead applications until he now finds himself -startled & wide eyed with wonder - at the right-bang-up-to-date here at NCR Edinburgh.
He has appeared on several hit 45 rpm vinyl records and eight track cassettes and is the subject of several pieces of graffiti in and around Leith (not all of which are complimentary)3.
Karl has given up dancing, jogging and cycling though he hopes to rekindle interest in at least one of these now he’s working only 30 mins from home.
