Product Owner


Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Product Owner to work as part of the Delivery Team, to build a product that delivers excellent customer experience and business value. You will be working close to the Product Managers and the Engineering Manager to balance and prioritize new feature delivery with high-quality software.

About the Role
  • Inspires commitment by communicating a clear vision, direction, purpose, and goal for each release and sprint
  • Work closely with Product Management and Architecture to support the development of the product road-map
  • Balance competing priorities and customer requirements while minimizing the creation of additional technical debt for sustainable software development.
  • Manage product backlog prioritizing features and user stories and mapping out dependencies
  • Write and refine user stories; drive best practice in user story creation to maximize understanding and testing/acceptance strategies
  • Create Feature and User Stories that represent “vertical slices” of value
  • Collaborates effectively with Scrum Master and Delivery Team to refine and improve the development process
  • Keep stakeholders updated and manage expectations
  • Represent the Voice of the Customer to the team throughout the agile product life-cycle
  • Support the delivery teams clarifying requirements, answering questions, removing blockers and making timely escalations to protect the customer outcome and speed to market feature
  • Own the "Acceptance" of stories and features delivered from the development teams
Requirements
  • Degree level education (although we will consider applicants without a degree if they can demonstrate suitable knowledge and experience)
  • Capability to understand and discuss technical topics at both a high level and detailed level, depending on audience
  • Have previously worked as a Business Analyst/Product Owner in a software engineering team
  • Experience of working with and managing stakeholders’ expectations
  • Experience of working with and managing stakeholders’ expectations
  • Experience of working in teams using Scrum/Kanban/Agile etc
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in workshop and meeting facilitation
  • Resilience and ability to handle stressful situations

OUR 3 STEP INTERVIEW PROCESS

1. Phone Screen:
This is a 30 minute telephone interview usually conducted by a manager or senior member of the development team. The first part of the phone screen is an opportunity for the candidate to learn more about NCR Edinburgh, how they can contribute to our success and how we can build their career; following this is a set of technical questions that gives both us and the candidate confidence that there is a potential fit with the candidate's technical skills.

2. Homework:
Following a successful phone screen the candidate is given an exercise to complete at home. This will either be a pure coding exercise or, for more senior roles, a coding and design exercise. This builds on the information gathered in the phone screen to give us a more rounded picture of the candidate's technical skills.

3. Face-to-face:
This is a 3 hour interview with two senior members of the technical team that gives the candidate the chance to demonstrate their technical strength and communication skills. The candidate will discuss their CV and background, present on a topic of their choice, take part in a design exercise and a live coding exercise. The interview will conclude with an opportunity for the candidate to ask any questions they may have.
