Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Engineer / Solution Architect to join our Digital Banking Open API Platform Team. This is a very productive, talented and successful group which promotes an environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, mutual respect and accountability.

The Role is primarily an architectural one focusing on Solution Design, including working with other Solution Architects, Enterprise Architects and stakeholders. It will also require a hands-on aspect; providing technical guidance, pairing and mentoring for the development team.

You should
  • Be able to clearly demonstrate to us that you have played a substantial role in successfully designing & delivering enterprise grade solutions
  • Be able to define and socialize standards with senior project stakeholders and dependent teams
  • Have good collaboration & communication skills which are key to this role. You will be able to demonstrate you have the experience, the soft skills and enthusiasm to play an active positive role in the interface between product management, solution architecture and software engineering
  • Have the enthusiasm and energy to lead, coach and mentor a team of highly skilled developers, to own solution design and to contribute actively toward product direction and our commitment to industry best practices
  • Demonstrate your ability to review business requirements, translate these into measurable and verifiable artifacts
Requirements
  • An interest in cloud technologies; real world experience with cloud migrations using e.g. GCP will be extremely useful
  • An interest in service mesh technology and microservice architectures; any experience with service meshes especially Istio is desirable
  • Expertise in Restful API, API gateways, microservice and integration architecture & design
  • Experience building enterprise software with micro services / SOA architecture + building public facing APIs
  • Expertise with multiple frameworks, different architecture and design patterns
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
  • Object Oriented analysis and design using common design patterns
  • Significant experience of an object-oriented language development and a strong understanding it’s internals
  • Experience with Relational and Non-Relational databases
  • Experience with build technologies (e.g. Maven), SCM technologies (e.g. Git); understanding of modern CI/CD pipeline architecture will be beneficial
Other Skills of Benefit

  • Experience of implementing Test-driven development processes
  • Experience of implementing secure software processes
  • Experience in development for financial applications
  • Experience in performance testing using technologies such as JMeter

OUR 3 STEP INTERVIEW PROCESS

1. Phone Screen:
This is a 30 minute telephone interview usually conducted by a manager or senior member of the development team. The first part of the phone screen is an opportunity for the candidate to learn more about NCR Edinburgh, how they can contribute to our success and how we can build their career; following this is a set of technical questions that gives both us and the candidate confidence that there is a potential fit with the candidate's technical skills.

2. Homework:
Following a successful phone screen the candidate is given an exercise to complete at home. This will either be a pure coding exercise or, for more senior roles, a coding and design exercise. This builds on the information gathered in the phone screen to give us a more rounded picture of the candidate's technical skills.

3. Face-to-face:
This is a 3 hour interview with two senior members of the technical team that gives the candidate the chance to demonstrate their technical strength and communication skills. The candidate will discuss their CV and background, present on a topic of their choice, take part in a design exercise and a live coding exercise. The interview will conclude with an opportunity for the candidate to ask any questions they may have.
