Alan joined NCR in June 2014 as the Solution Manager for the NCR Connections product. He was tempted away from his previous job by the Edinburgh office which feels like a small and dynamic startup yet offers all the benefits of working for a large corporation. The free breakfasts and the wall covered in photos of baking attempts also helped persuade him that it would be a fun place to work.
After graduating from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Alan started an ecclectic software career which has included coding, testing, business analysis and scrum mastering until finally focusing on the dark arts of Project Management. He is passionate about Agile and its application in building large enterprise software products. His career has allowed him and his wife to live and work in Scotland, America, Germany and finally back to Edinburgh when free babysitting from friends and family suddenly became very important.
Outside of work, Alan spends many hours thinking about learning to play guitar, considering dusting off his games console for the first time in years or pondering the revival of his poker career; but ultimately he just watches TV, plays with his son or gets dinner on for the family. Getting older has prompted Alan to try a healthier lifestyle but stuffy gyms are not his style so Alan has recently completed his second Tough Mudder event (a 12 mile endurance event with ice, electric shocks and mud obstacles) for the charity he volunteers for. He is probably overly optimistic about recruiting his NCR colleagues to form a team in future events but will try his best.
