Having completed an integrated Masters in Mathematics from the University of St Andrews, Katy decided to apply her problem-solving skills to the world of computing and began working at NCR Edinburgh in September 2015 as a software engineer. Katy's interest in computing stems from a First Year Computer Science course that she took at University; despite the late nights, tight deadlines and missed socialising, she realised that programming was something that she could enjoy as a career - although maths will always be a hobby.
Katy's love of learning was one of the reasons NCR appealed to her, with their weekly code and cake talks and regular in-house courses. Having focused on spectral graph theory during her last year of University, Katy hopes to expand her knowledge of the subject and focus on the application of graphs in computing during her training days.
Outside of work, Katy has a love of music and has been playing the piano and saxophone for many years. She enjoys reading fiction, going to the cinema and cooking - her speciality being vegetarian chilli. She also keeps fit - but doesn't enjoy that quite as much. Having been to Edinburgh several times as a child, Katy is excited to live in the city and get to know it better.
