Keir has maintained a lifelong passion for technology and computing, learning to code Python (a language he still maintains a soft-spot for) whilst at school and never looking back. At NCR he works as a software developer, currently working on digital banking's marketing solution, promotion suite. Previously he worked on building the Connections development platform using a variety of JavaScript-based technologies, and on various server-side Java projects. Keir is especially interested in emerging languages - in particular Kotlin, a less verbose language than Java, and TypeScript, a statically-typed variant of JavaScript. He is also a Linux enthusiast; having started off with Slackware many moons ago, he has gradually become less masochistic and now runs a relatively tame Ubuntu system.
Outside of computing, Keir puts in every effort to maintain a high level of geekery. He is fascinated by space exploration and keenly follows developments in the American, European and Chinese space programs. On a slightly duller note, he is also interested in history, whether it's 19th century Scottish social history or the archeology of the ancient Olmecs.
Keir also enjoys computer gaming. When the compulsion to play to his favourite game, 'Crusader Kings 2' subsides, he plays games from his favourite genre of 'going for a walk' games, such as 'Gone Home' or 'Dear Esther'. He is also an obsessive Alan Partridge fan.
Keir likes living in Edinburgh, since the rest of Scotland is just a short train journey away: be it the stunning scenery of the highlands or the rolling countryside of his homeland, the Kingdom of Fife.
